5. Is your skin sensitive?
Sensitive skin is characterized by a less solid skin barrier for protection of skin cells and allows irritants to penetrate to the deeper skin layers. This can cause acne, rosacea, stinging and allergic reactions.
Sensitive skin is often mistakenly associated with dry skin. Dry skin could be the cause of sensitivity. Insufficient moisture can lead to weakening of the skin barrier, which may result in an allergic or inflammatory reaction. Therefore, you may have an oily skin and still be sensitive.
Wash your face with lukewarm water and wait about 10 minutes. Do not apply moisturizer. If your skin looks shiny, unevenly toned or red, you may have a sensitive skin. Another way to determine whether you have sensitive skin is to ask yourself: does your skin reacts when you use ordinary soap; when in close contact with fabrics; or after shampooing. If you answer Yes to most of these questions, do not be concerned. Dr. Feder has developed special treatments for these concerns.
